Tunnel Inspection & Maintenance

Specialism

Together we ensure safe, sustainable and future‑proof connections that keep society moving.

Expertise

Asset Management

Tunnels are critical links. Strukton ensures these complex underground assets remain safe, reliable and maximally available throughout their entire life cycle. Through our multidisciplinary expertise, innovative methods and strong collaboration with specialised partners, we deliver efficient, forward‑looking inspection, renovation and long‑term maintenance.

Data‑Driven Asset Management: Insight for Optimal Performance

We apply advanced data‑driven asset management (DAMS) in tunnels, designed to make maintenance predictable and effective. Tunnels contain thousands of sensor‑controlled components continuously generating data on performance and deviations. By collecting, filtering and analysing this data, we determine the optimal moment to repair or replace components. This prevents failures, minimises unplanned tunnel closures and maximises availability.

This data‑centric approach gives us the best balance between performance, cost and risk, ensuring maintenance fully aligns with the needs of our clients and tunnel users.

Innovation as a Catalyst for Renovation and Maintenance

Strukton continuously invests in digital innovations that support inspection, analysis and assessment. These include smart data collection, advanced algorithms and specialised techniques such as milling tunnel walls for improved maintainability. Such innovations not only raise the quality of renovation work but also reduce risks by providing earlier and more accurate insight into ageing structures.

For us, innovation is not a goal in itself — it is how we work smarter, more sustainably, more safely and more efficiently, project after project.

Multidisciplinary Expertise for Complex Tunnel Projects

Tunnel inspection and maintenance require a chain‑wide, integrated approach. Our expertise includes:

  • Tunnel technical installations (TTIs): fire detection, CCTV, gas detection, energy systems
  • Civil renovations: concrete repair, expansion joints, foundation investigations and structural strengthening
  • Lifecycle strategies: contributing to maintenance concepts and long‑term risk assessments from the tender phase onward

With this multidisciplinary capability, we manage the entire chain and provide reliable solutions for both rail tunnels and road tunnels.

Real‑World Projects: From Renovation to Long‑Term Maintenance

Our work includes a wide range of complex tunnel projects, such as:

  • Renovation of the Hubertus Tunnel, including replacement of installations and application of innovative renovation techniques
  • Long‑term maintenance of the Botlek Tunnel, Thomassentunnel and Koning Willem‑Alexander Tunnel
  • Renewal of TTIs in the Betuweroute rail tunnels
  • Renovation of the Schiphol Rail Tunnel in cooperation with strategic partners

These projects highlight our strength: predictable organisation, smart collaboration and full chain responsibility.

Asset Management

Our data-driven asset management approach enables predictive maintenace, cost efficiency and optimised availability of infrastructure like railways, roads, tunnels and waterways.
