Every month at Strukton, we review our safety figures. We analyse incidents and accidents, look at trends using the IF rate or LTIR rate, sickness-related accidents, and the number of days lost due to accidents. This helps us assess, learn and improve. These are important indicators that show where we stand.
But in the end, it is not about the figures. Behind every figure is a story. Behind every accident figure is a person — a colleague, a team member, a family that is affected. It goes far beyond statistics. The real impact of an accident cannot be seen in a chart. It is something you feel. We truly understand the impact only when an accident happens to us or to someone close to us.
Taking time for safety is more than figures
Let’s be honest: all accidents can be prevented. We must not accept accidents as a normal part of our work. The moments when we think “just quickly” or “just this once” can have serious consequences. In a split second, your life or that of a colleague can change dramatically.

It happened “in a fraction of a second”!
Do we, in our company and in our sector, take enough time to recognise hazards and risks? Do we think ahead about what could go wrong before we start work? That is where safety begins. An accident happens fast — sometimes in less than a second. At that point, nothing can be corrected. The real benefit is at the start, when there is still time to plan and adjust. So ask yourself: do I, do we, take enough time upfront for safety?
Safety is part of everything we do together every day. It is a shared responsibility that requires attention day and night, as part of every task. We create safety together. We are all responsible for it. By staying alert, taking time to recognise hazards and risks, and speaking up when needed, we make the difference together. Do you take time for safety?
What can you do?
Plan your work and follow your plan. Work according to agreed procedures and plans, and carry out a last-minute risk assessment (LMRA) to identify deviations and hazards. Speak up if you have doubts — it is better to ask a question than to live with the consequences of an accident for the rest of your life.
Strengthen our safety culture — you are part of it. Take action where you can make improvements. Actively discuss safe and unsafe situations, for example during daily briefings. And report unsafe situations using our reporting app.
Speak to each other, and remember: whenever you receive a warning, question or comment, someone is looking out for your safety.
Stop if you think it is necessary and discuss the situation with your supervisor or with your company’s Safety & Health officer.
