Partner in the Energy Transition

The energy transition is well underway, and the demand for electricity is increasing rapidly. As a result, a significant expansion of the electricity grid, including large power substations, is essential. To encourage innovation and collaboration, grid operators work closely with contractors and tender large-scale work packages. Strukton is a trusted partner in these collaborations in the Netherlands.

Power Substations

Strukton has the knowledge and experience required to help deliver the energy transition, including the supply and construction of power distribution, switching, and control substations. Many of these facilities will be built in the coming years. Close cooperation between all parties involved is essential to successfully delivering this major challenge.

Long-Term Collaboration

In the Netherlands, Strukton has been selected as one of four contractors to deliver 182 power substations on behalf of grid operator Alliander. These substations will be constructed across Alliander’s service area. Strukton is responsible for the Amsterdam-Gooi region.

“Large-scale tenders such as these are part of Alliander’s approach to building long-term partnerships with organisations throughout the supply chain. By working side by side, we can scale up more effectively, increase technical capacity, and drive innovation together. This enables us to accelerate the energy transition.” Chief Operating Officer (COO) Marlies Visser at Alliander

Significant Grid Expansion

A reliable and sustainable energy supply requires a substantial expansion of the electricity grid. To support the energy transition and meet growing electricity demand, a major increase in the number of large power substations is also essential.

Fast and Efficient Delivery

The 182 substations commissioned by Alliander consist partly of expansions to existing facilities and partly of newly built substations. Wherever possible, a modular construction approach is used. This means substations are built according to standardised designs by contractors and specialist suppliers, helping to reduce delivery times and accelerate deployment.
