A substantial expansion of the electricity grid is essential to ensure an independent and sustainable energy supply. The rapid growth in the number of wind turbines and solar parks, combined with increasing electricity demand driven by the decarbonisation of industry, businesses and consumers, requires a significant expansion of the transmission network. In the Netherlands, grid operator TenneT is increasing the capacity of the electricity grid through the development of new 380 kV high-voltage power lines.
High-Voltage Power Lines
Specialism
Expertise
Strukton has the knowledge and experience to help deliver the energy transition, for example through the construction of high-voltage power lines. Following a tender procedure, TenneT awarded Strukton a long-term contract as one of three selected contractors. Under a framework agreement, these parties carry out civil engineering works for major overhead high-voltage grid projects across the Netherlands.
Large-scale foundation structures are required to support high-voltage transmission towers. Between the Dutch towns of Rilland and Tilburg, TenneT is preparing the construction of the new South-West 380 kV East power connection. Strukton is carrying out civil engineering works for TenneT on the section between Rilland and Moerdijk. Within this project, we are responsible for the preparation and construction of the tower foundations and the associated work sites and access roads. The project involves 126 locations.
Tower Foundations
In the province of Zeeland, Strukton, Mobilis, Terracon and Voorbij Funderingstechniek worked closely together to construct the foundation structures. In Groningen, the new 380 kV connection between Eemshaven and the Vierverlaten high-voltage substation has been commissioned. In Tilburg, Strukton and its partner Gubbels are contributing to the construction of a new 380 kV high-voltage substation, a vital link in Brabant’s energy supply. Several new tower foundations were constructed there, while existing foundations were reinforced.
