Strukton does not build trains or maintenance vehicles itself, but we do provide specialist services and technical solutions that contribute to reliable, safe and future-proof rail vehicles. With our expertise in electrical engineering, power supply systems, power electronics and maintenance, we support operators, contractors and rolling stock owners across Europe with electric drives, traction inverters, battery systems, maintenance, inspections and retrofit projects. Our focus is on both the sustainability of existing rolling stock and the maintenance, management and modernisation of rail vehicles.
Strukton has extensive expertise in traction systems for a wide variety of rail vehicles. We supply and integrate solutions for power conversion and propulsion, ranging from shunting locomotives and maintenance trains to metros, trams and other rail-bound vehicles.
As an independent specialist, we develop and integrate traction solutions tailored to the specific requirements of the vehicle and its operating environment. We can supply both new systems and the modernisation of existing installations.
A reliable traction system starts with dependable power electronics. Strukton develops and supplies traction inverters and other power electronic systems that efficiently convert electrical energy for the propulsion of rail vehicles.
Thanks to our experience in the railway sector, we can provide solutions for both existing and new vehicles. Reliability, energy efficiency and long service life are central to every solution we deliver.
Many rail vehicles were developed when diesel was the standard. As the focus on sustainability continues to grow, there is increasing demand for alternative propulsion technologies. Strukton supports customers in the transition to cleaner solutions, such as battery and hybrid systems.
We develop and integrate solutions that convert existing vehicles from diesel to electric operation or equip them with battery systems. This reduces emissions while extending the operational life of existing vehicles. For example, our power electronics specialists developed a battery locomotive for Strukton Rail as part of this sustainability programme.
The availability of rolling stock is crucial for railway operations and infrastructure works. That is why Strukton provides maintenance, technical management and modernisation services for maintenance trains, road-rail vehicles, locomotives and other specialised rail-bound equipment in its own workshops. We offer these services not only for our own fleet but also for third-party vehicles.
We operate specialised workshops, including our train workshop in Zutphen. We also have workshops in Sweden and Italy, enabling us to support customers internationally with inspections, overhauls, repairs and life-extension projects.
Not every vehicle needs to be replaced to meet modern requirements. In many cases, retrofit offers a sustainable and cost-effective alternative. Strukton modernises existing rail vehicles and equips them with new technologies, electric drive systems, batteries, control systems and other technical upgrades. This approach improves sustainability, extends service life and enhances performance without the need to invest in completely new rolling stock.
