Strukton Civiel will carry out the maintenance of lot 2 on the waterways in the east of the Netherlands for the next five years. The lot specified in Rijkswaterstaat's performance contract consists of the Lower Rhine, Lek, IJssel Delta and Twente canals and includes a total of 87 kilometres of canal, 250 kilometres of river and 2486 breakwaters. The Performance Contract for the East Netherlands Waterways, valued at more than EUR 50 million, covers a contract period of five years and includes an option for an extension of up to three years.

The work on the waterways consists of:

  • fairway maintenance (dredging)
  • bank maintenance
  • maintenance of greenery along the canals
  • maintenance of pavements and mooring facilities in overnight moorings

The work to be carried out by Strukton Civiel on the aforementioned waterways will start in the second half of 2021.

Highest quality score

Rijkswaterstaat used best price-quality ratio (BPKV) criteria for the tender, which is aimed at asset management and sustainability (environmental cost indicators/MKIs). Strukton achieved the highest quality score total of all the tenderers and therefore also the fictitious lowest tender in lot 2.

This is an excellent opportunity for Strukton to strengthen its activities in the maintenance market and to enter into a long-term collaborative relationship with Rijkswaterstaat. Digitisation and technology are also important Strukton spearheads that fit very well in this contract.
