Since January 2018, Strukton Worksphere has been working hard to complete a neuro-angio room for the Haaglanden Medical Centre.

This state-of-the-art Azurion neuro-angio room by Philips has a biplane, a double X-ray stand which can map the different sides of the blood vessels. This makes it possible to provide a vascular diagnosis for patients who have suffered an acute stroke, thus strongly improving the prognosis after treatment. This is the first room featuring this technology in the Netherlands: a real first!

Technical feat
For Strukton Worksphere, this project was a technical feat for which both the architectural and technical modifications had to be achieved in a short space of time. Obviously in close cooperation with the other specialists involved, such as Philips for the medical equipment.

Besides the technical demands that apply to the equipment in the neuro-angio room, the room itself is also an architectural and technical masterpiece. All the walls are provided with 2 mm of lead to keep radiation inside the room. Even the access doors are made of lead, which massively added to the weight, which was supported by the architectural structure. As an operating theatre, the room must also be airtight and the pressure hierarchy safeguarded with the adjacent room(s) in compliance with the VCCN guideline 10. A range of functionalities can be operated by the medical staff via a touchscreen panel. These include light, temperature, colour of the lighting and control of all peripheral equipment.

Neuro-angio room saves lives
The work on the neuro-angio room took four months, after which the medical team successfully started using the new technology. The project has resulted in a hypermodern environment where patients with serious injuries can be effectively treated with the latest techniques. A project to which we are proud to have contributed.

At an A&E department attended by over 50,000 patients every year, the neuro-angio room will save lives. On Thursday, 31 May, the neuro-angio room opened its doors for the media to provide a glimpse behind the scenes.
