I have two words for you: 'data' and 'connection'. Not the most exciting words, but behind them lies a world of amazing new possibilities. Just think of everything related to the Internet of Things. More and more devices have an online connection. The volume of data involved is staggering.

Connections make life easier. At home, I have a small server with my photos and all kinds of documents. This means I can always access them remotely. I also like to follow the developments relating to smart solutions for the home. I'm now somewhat impatiently waiting for a store cupboard which automatically orders the shopping for me. That would be brilliant!

I not only make my own life easier, but also that of our clients. How? You've guessed it: by making connections and by smart data management.

Do you still request maintenance manually?
The most valuable advice I can give you is to get more out of your Facility Management Information System. If you work with an FMIS, you'll know that it's an indispensable program for streamlining and optimising internal processes. The system has a huge number of possibilities. And often they're not all used.

For example, many of our clients tell us that they still issue maintenance requests to us manually. This might involve a water leak, for example. A door that jams. A broken window. A room that's too cold. In short: all kinds of damage, architectural and mechanical-architectural problems, depending on what's in the contract. You'll recognise the situation: this usually still involves individual orders and notes
The solution: a smart connection
A software connection between your company's FMIS and our own SAM system makes short work of that unnecessary extra work. The connection ensures that the communication between your service desk and our back office and operations runs automatically. So instead of manual notifications (and lack of insight into their status), you can do things like this:

Somewhere in your building, a window has broken. A facility employee reports this in their own FMIS. According to the contract, this is automatically sent to Strukton Worksphere and passes through various stages. You can follow that progress in your own FMIS. You can see when the order has been forwarded to the engineer. You see when the window has been replaced. You also immediately see what the response and restore times were. The latter is very useful in performance contracts. This means you know if we were on time. A very informative circle of information, with no individual receipt flows.

Another great advantage
That connection between the FMIS and our SAM system not only saves time, but also produces lots of useful information. And that can often generate lots of profit. At Strukton Worksphere, we call this 'data-driven service provision'. Based on all the reports and supplementary data, we can further optimise both the maintenance planning and the installations. By performing maintenance differently, earlier or more often. This prevents unnecessary faults and complaints. As a result, we can better fulfil the comfort and other agreements and the users benefit enormously.

Group of schools: more overview
For a group of schools in the middle of the country, we manage and maintain around twenty schools. Their request to us: can you design and connect our FMIS in such a way that all the custodians in each school can contact you for repairs in the same system? And that they always know when each request has been resolved? Our answer: yes we can. We've now automated the whole chain. From now on, the status of a report is always clear, and they know when something has been resolved.

Care institution: financial convenience
For a mental healthcare institution, we went a step further than their request. We not only automated the entire process, from the moment of reporting something to resolving it. We added a financial link too. For this institution, we regularly do work outside the maintenance contract. The financial administration was done manually. A lot of work. That whole process has now been automated. They follow reports in their FMIS and the invoice for each job automatically arrives in their own financial system.
