Replacement 220kV connection with 380-kV high-voltage connection
The Eemshaven-Vierverlaten 380 kV (kiloVolt) project started on Wednesday, 1 April 2020. This new 380-kV high voltage line will replace the current 220-kV line.
TenneT has commissioned the Strukton Civiel and Mobilis consortium to build the section between Eemshaven and Bedum. During the project, the consortium will be supported by partner Koninklijke Oosterhof Holman.
The need for (sustainable) electricity will continue to grow in the years to come. The new Eemshaven-Vierverlaten 380-kV high voltage line and the Vierverlaten high voltage substation are important links for the supply of electricity to Groningen and the rest of the Netherlands. That is why this new high voltage line is required. The line is 40 km long and has 121 wintrack masts. The Eemshaven-Vierverlaten 380-kV high voltage line is a 4-circuit line connection. As soon as the new high voltage line is ready, the old 220-kV line connection will be dismantled. And because TenneT will integrate the 110-kV line from Vierverlaten to Brillerij into the new high voltage line, a total of 163 lattice masts will disappear from the Groningen landscape.
The route has been divided into sections (lots). Strukton Civiel and Mobilis will be responsible for lot 2, the section from Eemshaven to Bedum, which includes 69 of the 121 masts. One wintrack mast consists of two pylons (pillars). That means that 138 concrete foundations must be built for the 69 masts. The project will start with the construction of temporary roads. The roads will be built so that the necessary equipment, such as piling machines and cranes, can be transported to the construction locations. In early May, the companies Voorbij Funderingstechniek and Terracon will start pile-driving and drilling the foundation piles for the foundations. The pouring of the first of the 138 concrete foundations is scheduled to take place before this year’s construction workers’ holiday. After the foundations are ready, the masts and high voltage lines will be installed by subcontractors. Once they are ready, the work roads and sites will have to be left neat and tidy and the land returned to its original condition. The high voltage line will go into service in 2023.
