Band-aids and impractical plans

We often see that companies repair and replace their building systems on a rather ad-hoc basis. A band-aid approach without an integrated plan or a clear vision. Broken boiler? No problem, just replace it with a new one. The really major interventions are shifted indefinitely into the future. But this leaves you with the uneasy feeling that you are not on track in terms of meeting the increasingly stringent environmental requirements. Sounds familiar?

Working without a clear plan is a clear pitfall. However, this also applies to working with a plan that does not reflect reality. I regularly hear about elaborate advice that has been discarded because the installer shook his head and indicated it could not be implemented as proposed. So, yet another issue for the facility manager: who should you engage for what part of the sustainability process? How do you prevent all kinds of difficult handovers between different parties?
