The Central Government Real Estate Agency, the municipality of Utrecht and R Creators launched the redevelopment of government office De Knoop.

On Tuesday, 21 June 2016, the Central Government Real Estate Agency, the municipality of Utrecht and R Creators (consortium of Strukton, Facilicom and Ballast Nedam) officially launched the redevelopment of government office De Knoop in Utrecht. By helping drill the boreholes on the construction site, they symbolically marked the start of the construction work. The Central Government Real Estate Agency represented the future users.

Sustainable redevelopment
The outdated complex is being sustainably redeveloped to become a government office that will accommodate various government departments. The work consists of a combination of demolition, renovation and extension. The principle is to demolish as little as possible and to re-use wherever possible. The shell of the former Knoopkazerne barracks is being transformed into sustainable government offices and extended with a conference centre for a thousand visitors. An atrium links the conference centre and the transformed Knoopkazerne. The outside area is designed with 'the Knoopplein' and a temporary pavilion.

PPP project
Construction of Rijkskantoor De Knoop is a PPP project. The R Creators consortium is responsible for the design, construction, maintenance and operation. After commissioning in 2018, the operational phase will start with a duration of twenty years.
